Austria beat out Norway to claim the first World Cup event after the Olympics. Thomas Morgenstern and Andreas Kofler led the way as the defending gold medallists continued their dominance. Norway were the closest competitors but the Austrians never looked bothered as they coasted to the victory.

Marit Bjoergen of Norway destroyed the field to win the women's Vasaloppet 45km marathon race in Mora, Sweden on Saturday. After an initial break 5km into the race with compatriot Hilde G Pedersen, Bjoergen turned on the power in the last 10 km to claim the longest race in the women's calendar.

Felix Gottwald of Austria concluded the Olympic Nordic Combined competition with an impressive victory in the large hill 7.5km sprint. Gottwald crossed the line in a time of 18 minutes and 29 seconds, 5 seconds ahead of Norwegian Magnus-H Moan. Georg Hettich claimed bronze 9.6 seconds off the pace.

Italy won their first cross-country skiing gold medal of the Turin Winter Olympics on Sunday when their men triumphed in the 4x10km relay. Pietro Piller Cottrer powered round the third leg to hand Cristian Zorzi a 13-second lead for the last lap. He cruised over the line ahead of Germany and Sweden.

Thomas Morgenstern produced a spectacular second-round jump of 140 metres to lead an Austrian one-two on the large hill on Friday. Andreas Kofler - leader at the halfway stage - finished just a tenth of a point behind his compatriot to grab silver, while small hill champion Lars Bystoel took bronze.

Russian Evgenia Medvedeva sprinted to the finish line to claim the women's 4x5km cross-country relay gold on Saturday. Medvedeva crossed the line crossed the line ten seconds ahead of second-placed Claudia Kuenzel for the German team and 11 seconds faster than an impressive Sabina Valbusa of Italy.

Sweden's cross-country camp enjoyed two gold medals on Tuesday as both the men's and women's team slid to victory in Pragelato. Lina Andersson powered home to give team-mate Anna Dahlberg a well dersevered medal while Lind Bjoern wrapped things up for the men in the last 100 metres.

Lars Bystoel produced a second-round jump of 103.5 metres on the normal hill in Pragelato on Sunday to earn Norway's first gold in Turin. Bystoel - sixth after the first round - finished a point ahead of Finland's Matti Hautamaeki on 266.5 points, while compatriot Roar Ljoekelsoey took bronze.

Georg Hettich held off a late burst from Austria's Felix Gottwald to take gold in the Nordic Combined individual Gundersen on Saturday. The German - who led after the ski jumping section - paced the race perfectly to finish 9.8 seconds ahead of Gottwald, with Magnus Moan of Norway in third.

Defending World Cup champion Axel Teichmann will miss the Olympic Games in Turin after undergoing an operation on his thigh due to a leg infection late on Thursday. "Unless a miracle happens, Axel will miss the Games," confirmed the German's national coach Jochen Behle in Pragelato on Friday.

Tobias Angerer won the men's 30km classic mass start race on Saturday as Gemany placed three skiers in the top five places with Jens Filbrich finishing third and a fifth place for Rene Sommerfeldt. Norwegian Frode Estil finished a close second after leading in the last kilometres of the race.

Clare-Louise Brumley made it an Australian double, claiming back to back wins in the women's 42km race.
