In 1991, the Nordic Skiing World Championships were hosted in Trentino
and the Val di Fiemme, the first time the events were held in a region south of the Alps in the discipline's history.
It was dominated by international apprehension linked to the Gulf War.
The Fiemme organisers were put to the test, but nonetheless dealt with the situation effectively and their efforts were
appreciated by all.Twelve years later, in 2003, the Valley was dressed in championship colours for a second World Nordic Championship. The support for the event came from tour operators and fans of the teams from around the world that had taken part in the World Cup races which had steadily become traditional events to mark the opening of the winter season. Also on this occasion the tried and tested organisational system, along with the invaluable contribution of the volunteers, carried out its task excellently. With these facts in mind, Fiemme and Trentino are therefore fully within their rights to announce, with decision and pride, their intention to go for the “hat trick” in 2013. Fiemme and Trentino have made their mark on the Nordic Skiing discipline, and have gained international recognition as a sporting region with great organisational talent that is not by chance the cradle of great champions and great events, such as the Marcialonga di Fiemme and Fassa. We are ready, supported by the same real enthusiasm as the first time round, and stronger thanks to our matured experience and the appreciation and friendship from everyone, athletes, technicians and sports enthusiasts alike!
